Directions | Trail Creek Cabin can be accessed from two directions:
For foot and horse travel, we recommend beginning at the trailhead on Newman Creek. To reach this, travel south off Interstate 90 (Exit 316) on the Trail Creek road for approximately 7 miles; then west on the Newman Creek road to the trailhead (1 mile). The trail to the cabin is 2.2 miles, with the first 1.7 miles crossing private property so please stay on the trail. (Note: For those coming from the south; the Newman Creek road turnoff is 5.5 miles north of the Trail Creek north of the Trail Creek road/Divide road junction.
Snowmobile and ATV travel are best accommodated from Goose Creek. To reach this, travel south off Interstate 90 (Exit 316) on the Trail Creek road for 3 miles; then east on the Goose Creek road for 2 miles to the locked gate. Parking is available at this point. The cabin is located 5.2 miles further up the road and accessible only by foot, horse, bike, ATV or snowmobile. The ATV must be less than 50 inches wide to maneuver through a slot along side the Goose Creek gate. In winter, users must use skies, snowshoes, or snowmobiles to get to it.1 |

NetDescriptions | Trail Creek Cabin is a cozy log cabin situated on the edge of a small meadow, in the foothills of the Gallatin Mountain Range. The cabin is partially surrounded by lodgepole pine trees, while the front view overlooks the meadow. The cabin was built in 1924 and was the original ranger station for the Bozeman Ranger District. Although the cabin sits on National Forest land, it is surrounded by sections of private land. Evidence of past timber harvest can be viewed from the front porch.
The elevation at the cabin is 6,223 feet.
This is a rustic log cabin with no electricity, indoor plumbing or running water. An outhouse toilet is located nearby. The cabin is a log building (12 by 24 feet) with a front porch and sleeping loft. The cabin contains four beds with mattresses, a table and chairs, a propane lantern and a wood stove for heating. This cabin has a capacity for 4 people; additional people are not allowed to camp outside or sleep on the floor/porch. A limited supply of firewood is provided. There is no drinking water available, so you must bring your own water.
It is the cabin renter's responsibility to call the Livingston Ranger District (406)222-1892 for the current combination 7 days prior to reservation date. Combination lock is on the back door of cabin. Combinations are changed at unscheduled intervals. |
