NetDescriptionsThe Heritage Museum’s exhibits illustrate the history of the area and its people. The Kootenai Indians, miners, lumbermen, fur traders, and all our pioneers are depicted faithfully. Animals on display: a silver-tipped grizzly, a blonde-black bear, 2 kinds of eagles, a gray wolf and many more. The main building is a unique 12-sided log building and a 3-story matching cupola built by volunteers. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Along with the thousands of local artifacts, the 12+ acre grounds have more historic buildings and outdoor exhibits that are open year-round. We also have a 1906 Shay Locomotive housed in its original “Shay Shed.” The Shay is currently in the process of being restored to working order.
