Directions | From Highway 2 west of Glasgow, turn north on Britsch Road and proceed 15 miles. Britsch Road is graveled only for the first eight miles so travel is not recommended during unstable weather. A high-clearance vehicle is necessary.
From Highway 24, turn west on Kerr Road which is located 15 miles south of Opheim, Montana, and 17 miles north of St. Marie. The first segment of Kerr Road is graveled, but the remainder may become impassible during wet weather. NetDescriptions | The 59,000-acre Bitter Creek Wilderness Study Area (WSA) is located in north Valley County in the glaciated plains of northeast Montana. This is a popular area for hunting and backpacking as well as photography and wildlife and scenic viewing. The WSA is a Watchable Wildlife area as well as a featured stop on Montana's Northeastern Plains Birding Trail. Highlighted species include Sprague's pipit, McCown's longspur, Baird's sparrow, and long-billed curlew.
WSAs are remote and undeveloped lands that offer primitive and unconfined recreation opportunities. Travel by mechanized or motorized means is only allowed on numbered routes. Please leave no trace of your visit so others may enjoy nature as it was intended for us.
