NetDescriptions | This two-story cabin is 700 square feet and is located near the East Fork of the Bull River. This was a primary Ranger Station from 1908 to 1920 when motorized access caused the Forest Service to consolidate activities at the Noxon Ranger Station. Then the cabin became a seasonally used Guard Station. The last time the Forest Service used the cabin as a Guard Station was in the late 1970s.
This cabin was built in 1907 by Granville 'Granny' Gordon shortly after he was appointed as the first District Ranger on the Cabinet National Forest. It is equipped with an electric stove and heater, three double beds, 2 single beds and some cleaning supplies (broom, dustpan, dish pans, Windex, paper towels, toilet paper, fly swatter). Due to vandalism, however, these items are not guaranteed. Renters need to bring all their own bedding. Cooking and eating utensils are provided but cannot be guaranteed. The cabin is not plumbed for water and has an outdoor toilet. Stock animals are not allowed in the cabin area. A horse corral was installed several hundred feet behind the cabin by a volunteer group in 2007. As always certified weed free hay is required on all Forest Service lands.
There are no potable water sources available at the cabin; we do recommend bringing your own water as all open water is considered contaminated.
Wildlife and fishing opportunities are plentiful and the viewing aesthetics is extraordinary.
In 1989, Forest Service Employees, members of the Cabinet Wilderness Historical Society and volunteers donated hundreds of hours toward restoration efforts. Please respect and support these efforts; remove nothing from the site. No smoking in or around the building. Pets on leash.
Rental fee is $55.00 per night, for up to 7 consecutive nights. Eight person capacity. For more information including lock combination to the cabin contact the National Recreation Reservation Service at 1-877-444-6777 or book on-line at www.Recreation.gov. Full access depends on weather conditions. The road is normally plowed within 1 mile of the cabin.
