NetDescriptionsSavenac Cookhouse is one of the buildings located at the Historic Savenac Nursery. The historic nursery was founded in 1907 as a Forest Service tree nursery. Nursery operations concluded in 1969 and now the site is used for cabin rental. The cookhouse was originally a residence converted in the 1970's to a cookhouse. It has a commercial range with grill and double ovens, microwave oven, assorted cooking utensils and service for 25 to 30 people, commercial dishwasher, 2 refrigerators plus walk-in cooler for larger groups, dining area that can seat 25 to 30 and sleeping facilities for 9 with 3 bathrooms and 2 showers. The sleeping facilities consist of 9 twin beds with mattress covers all located in the basement. Three beds in a separate room with the remaining beds located in a common group area. Visitors need to bring bedding. Historic Savenac Nursery is located at the Haugan exit with easy access to I-90. It is within walking distance to Lincoln's Silver Dollar complex which has a family restaurant, gas and convenience store and gift shop. The Savenac compound also consists of a visitor center that is operated from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Located on the compound are memorials, and interpretive trails with plenty of room to roam. Beautiful Savenac Creek runs through the compound. In winter, groomed snowmobile trails are just out your door and opportunities abound for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Lookout Pass Ski hill is located just 10 miles west on I-90. The world class Hiawatha Rail Trail is located just 7 miles to the west for pristine mountain biking. Numerous mountain streams, St. Regis River, hiking trails and alpine lakes are all available for recreational activities within just a few minutes of Savenac. The cookhouse is open year around for rental except for when it is reserved for administrative use or maintenance. Compound road is plowed in winter. There is an $80 a night usage fee
