It takes its present name from the creek that flows through a canyon to the Missouri River. The town, which has had a post office continuously since 1871, now serves as an outpost for the ranches of the Prickly Pear Valley. The general store and filling station is located a few miles northwest of Helena. The small community of Marysville has several buildings on the National Historic Register.
