NetDescriptionsIbex Cabin is a cozy log cabin situated on the edge of a small meadow, in the foothills of the Crazy Mountains. Lodgepole Pine trees nestle close to the back of the cabin, while the front view looks out to Ibex Mountain (7,354 feet). The cabin was built in 1939 to house forest rangers for the Shields Ranger District. Although the cabin sits on National Forest Land, it is surrounded by three sections of private land. Evidence of past timber harvest and cattle grazing can be viewed from the front porch. The cabin is located at the end of a road that is drivable by high clearance vehicles in spring, summer, and fall months. During wet weather, 4-wheel drive and/or tire chains may be necessary. During the winter months, access to the cabin is limited to over snow travel (snowmobiling, skiing). The elevation of the cabin is 6,600 feet. This is a rustic log cabin with no indoor plumbing or running water. An outhouse toilet is located nearby. The cabin is a log building (16 by 17 feet) with a front porch. The cabin contains two bunk beds, a table and chairs, a propane lantern and a wood stove for heating. This cabin has a capacity for 4 people; additional people are not allowed to camp outside or sleep on the floor or porch. A limited supply of firewood is provided. There is no drinking water available, so you must bring your own water. No bedding is provided. Remember to bring food, drinking water, flashlights, propane fuel for lantern, toilet paper, soap, matches, newspaper to start fire, and other miscellaneous camping gear. It is the cabin renter's responsibility to call the Livingston Ranger District (406)222-1892 for the current combination 7 days prior to reservation date. Combination lock is on the back door of cabin. Combinations are changed at unscheduled intervals.
