NetDescriptionsWelcome to where history lives. Housed in one of the few examples of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture that retain their original appearance, the Northwest Montana History Museum is the premier regional museum presenting and preserving Northwest Montana history. Based in Kalispell's oldest public building, the facility debuted as a schoolhouse in 1895 for the nascent town, complete with hot and cold running water and electricity. The museum features exhibits on Native American culture; writer Frank Bird Linderman; industries, history, and ecology of the Flathead Valley; and Glacier National Park, as well as the colorful short-lived town of Demersville, Kalispell's precursor. The museum hosts approximately 150 events year-round. Its bookstore and gift shop stocks a wide range of Montana-related titles and wares for all ages. Walking tours run from June to September.
