NetDescriptionsEstablished in 1936, Creston National Fish Hatchery originally provided trout for the waters of Glacier National Park. Today the hatchery focuses on mitigation stocking to meet the goals of the Hungry Horse Dam Fishery Implementation Plan stocking Montana Reservations to meet FWS Trust responsibilities and cooperative fishery management plans with Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks. Open to the public; Creston National Fish Hatchery always welcomes visitors to visit the hatchery for a close-up view of the fish production process. The outdoor facilities are open to visitors during daylight hours 7 days a week, year-round. Fingerlings and older fish live in the outdoor raceways. When visiting the hatchery, be sure to explore additional recreational opportunities around the hatchery. Try your luck fishing on the Mill fishing pond, enjoy a picnic near the Jessup Mill Pond, hike the nature trail, and take in the beautiful mountain views. Please be sure to bring your binoculars and a camera for wildlife and bird watching. The hatchery building is open from 8:00am - 4:00pm daily. You are welcome to step inside and learn about the history of the hatchery. Larger visitor groups can arrange for guided tours of hatchery facilities by calling in advance. Picnic pavilion and nature explore outdoor classroom is available.
