This popular recreation area (pronounced ah knee) has a variety of uses. One portion is used almost exclusively for off-highway vehicle riding and consists of about 50 miles of trails on 1,062 acres. The other portion, about 4,000 acres, offers hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, picnicking, and bird watching opportunities. The OHV area is subject to closure to motorized vehicle use due to wet and muddy conditions or because of fire danger. Call the 24-hour hotline for the latest information: 896-5014. Otherwise, the area is open year-round. Recreationists should take extra precaution during hunting season. ATV and motorcycle riders using the area will need to purchase a special recreation permit for each vehicle they operate. These passes may be purchased at the OHV area by using a fee envelope at the kiosk in the parking area.
