NetDescriptionsIf you happen to be driving about one mile south of Opheim, Montana, you'll find Granrud's Lefse. Lefsa is a Norwegian flatbread similar to tortilla but make from potatoes. People come from all over to tour our unique operation and sample our lefse hot off the grill. Our season starts up in the Fall and runs into April. Come by some time to watch and taste. In 1977, Evan and Myrt Granrud had this BIG idea to make lefse. The wheels started turning, the pieces started to fall together and many long hours were spent designing the rolling machines, the tube stuffers, frying grills, cooling conveyor and perfecting the recipe. The unique rolling process (not pressed) Evan developed is what makes many say Granrud's lefse is 'just like Grandma used to make.' Evan and Myrt's efforts paid off, and since 1977, Granrud's Lefse is still being sold nationwide. Granrud's Lefse ships lefse to customer in all 50 states! Who would have ever thought that lefse would put Opheim on the map? In a small community such as ours, there are not that many jobs and for that matter, workers to do the jobs that are available. Granrud's Lefse Shack is, with the exception of the Opheim School, the largest employer in town. Up to 10 people work together, peeling and cooking, mixing, stuffing, rolling, frying and packaging, to make this delicious Scandinavian treat for you. How to Eat Lefse: Traditionally served with meals as a bread. Also a great tasting snack spread with butter and sprinkled with a little sugar, roll it up and ENJOY! Makes delicious hors d'oeuvres, try lefse rolled up with meats, cheeses or fruit filings.
