NetDescriptionsRefuge Point was a vital meeting place after the 1959 Hebgen Lake Earthquake. This ridge provided a place of protection during the night of August 17th for many survivors of the the earthquake. Campers were trapped between Hebgen Dam and the massive rock slide. The following morning, Forest Service smokejumpers parachuted to this point and set up rescue operations. Ghost Village is the remains of Halford Camp. The cabins associated with the camp were lifted up by the rising water of Earthquake Lake and displaced after the lake level dropped. The trail can be done as a 1.5 out-and-back trek to the overlook or as a 2.5-mile loop adventure. Rolling hills and good views of Earthquake Lake, Ghost Village, and the Madison Range make this loop trail an enjoyable trip.
