NetDescriptionsThe WaterWorks Art Museum formerly known as Custer County Art and Heritage Center was established in 1977 and is located in a park overlooking the Yellowstone River. Housed in the concrete basins of the 1910 Water Works that produced Mile City's drinking water for over 60 years, the Center fills nearly 10,000 square feet of exhibit and work space. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and earned a Montana Governor's Historic Preservation Award. The Center also received the 2003 Governor's Award for the Arts. The Center has extensive, elegant galleries that feature regional and national changing exhibits as well as those chosen from our permanent collection. Selected artists represent a wide variety of mediums and styles in solo, groups, and theme exhibitions. The permanent collection of the Center is of historical photographs which include Montana's largest public collection of 1800s vintage LA Huffman photos as well as Lady Evelyn Cameron, ES Curtis, Christian Barthelmess and others. Contact the Center for a current list of events and exhibits.
